Antibiotice organized the second edition of the project “We Collect Expired Medicines Responsibly!” at the company’s headquarters in Iași

In the context of Sustainability Day in Romania, between October 21st and 28th, Antibiotice organized the second edition of its social responsibility project dedicated to the company’s employees – “Responsible for Future Generations! We Collect Expired Medicines Responsibly!”.

As a member of the Sustainability Embassy in Romania (ASR), and in response to stakeholder requests following the consultation process, Antibiotice organized the second edition of the “We Collect Expired Medicines Responsibly!” project, aiming to raise awareness among employees about the importance of properly collecting expired or unused medicines.

For one week, Antibiotice employees were given the opportunity to bring expired or unused medicines and dietary supplements to a specially designated collection point on the company’s industrial platform in Iași, excluding those with special regulations, cytostatics, and cytotoxic drugs. At the end of the campaign, 98 kg of medicines were collected, representing a 3% increase compared to the first edition, indicating a growing sense of responsibility among employees towards the environment. The collected medicines and dietary supplements will be taken by a specialized company for safe destruction, ensuring no harm to the environment.

Medicine waste poses a real threat to the environment when disposed of in trash bins or flushed down the drain, endangering public health. Due to their chemical composition, these substances can pollute water and soil, with harmful substances potentially entering the food chain and drinking water through natural processes.

Sustainability Day in Romania, marked on October 27th, also celebrated its second edition, having been promulgated by the President of Romania on May 30, 2023, through Law no. 157/2023.
